GameSpot
reports that video game retailer GameStop has put an Electronic Arts retro title on their product list. The 14-game compilation, called
EA Replay, is slated for release on Oct. 3 with a price of $29.99. Here's the list of titles expected:
- B.O.B. -- 1993 -- SNES and Genesis
- Budokan -- 1990 -- Genesis
- Desert Strike -- 1993 -- SNES and Genesis
- Jungle Strike -- 1993 -- SNES and Genesis
- Haunting Starring Polterguy -- 1993 -- Genesis
- Mutant League Football -- 1993 -- Genesis
- Road Rash -- 1992 -- Genesis, later on 3DO
- Road Rash II -- 1993 -- Genesis
- Road Rash III -- 1995 -- Genesis
- Syndicate -- 1995 -- SNES, 3DO, Jaguar
- Ultima: The Black Gate -- 1994 -- SNES
- Virtual Pinball -- 1993 -- Genesis
- Wing Commander -- 1993 -- SNES
- Wing Commander: The Secret Missions -- 1993 -- SNES
No official word has seeped out of EA's mouths about this title, so all faith will have to be entrusted with GameStop. Either way, these retro
mash-ups seem like an easy cash grab, so it makes sense for most publishers to push them forward.

Mutant League Football ftw! Too bad it's for the PSP.

Looks pretty cool

SYNDICATE!!.. I remember Syndicate Wars was the coolest game back in the day. And Road Rash speaks for itself as an instant classic. I was wondering Joystiq, since i am on your website about 20 times a day looking for ALL the latest and greatest news, as well as recommending to everyone you're website, don't you think i deserve more than -1 Stars!!!. Lol

I remember Road Rash for the Dreamcast. That was fun times :)
nsolo1717 @ Aug 14th 2006 11:04PM
psp needs this .....i'm happy that this is coming out....want to buy something and Mutant League Football says it all......although the -strike games were always fun too

Hey Scott,
Don't say I never did anything for ya.
Rabish12 @ Aug 14th 2006 11:29PM
Road Rash? Good stuff. Wing Commander? Great stuff. Syndicate? Wicked awesome stuff. The SNES version of Ultima: The Black Gate? That's not just a bad game, it's absolutely terrible. If I were rating this collection I'd instantly drop it a point or two for including that piece of trash. Rest of it still looks nice though.
Whitefinger @ Aug 14th 2006 11:30PM
OMG, I loved B.O.B. on the Genesis. Combine this with the Genesis collection and the Capcom collections and the PSP is looking great for some old school lovin'
Oh, and 'I remember Road Rash for the Dreamcast' made me giggle. Go Genesis!
Beastard @ Aug 14th 2006 11:32PM
Why PSP? These would be great games that could be on the Wii's Virtual Console. In any case, I'm glad EA remembers such classics as Mutant League Football, Road Rash, and Desert Strike.
Rob @ Aug 15th 2006 12:02AM
This would make a great package deal for XBLA.
Blaine @ Aug 15th 2006 12:08AM
The Haunting staring Polterguy was actually a really interesting and unique game. It's cool to see it get a rebirth.
epobirs @ Aug 15th 2006 12:13AM
A couple classics but not the list I would have assembled. I'm surprised they didn't dredge up Harley's Humungous Adventure, too.
EA should go all the way back to the beginning. How great would a modern Archon be or better yet, M.U.L.E. with easy four player support over WiFi. A Pinball Construction Set that let you share standalone creations with people who don't own the game, as you could on the Apple and Atari. Seven Cities of Gold could also do with an update.
cytorak @ Aug 15th 2006 12:17AM
Haunting was a great game, but I am pretty sure the last boss was impossible.
J Arcane @ Aug 15th 2006 12:17AM
I'm with Rabish12. Why the hell did they pick Black Gate?
There's only two console Ultimas worth playing, Exodus on NES, and The False Prophet on SNES.
False Prophet is still one of the greatest RPGs ever released to a console, and I frankly liked it better than the PC version, thanks to a much cleaner, simpler interface.
Mutant League and Wing Commander make this one a tempting proposition, but False Prophet would've sealed the deal all by itself.
Dave @ Aug 15th 2006 12:58AM
Jungle Strike is awesome.
fat boy @ Aug 15th 2006 1:08AM
Some true classics here. Lucky PSP owners.
Ah, for the old days, back before the "E" in EA stood for "Evil".

I had some fun with Budokan back in the (pre-Street Fighter II) days, epobirs, but I totally agree with you about PCS and SCG. While they're at it, they oughtta bring out Heart of Africa, Racing Destruction Set, and the original PC versions of the Wing Commander series on XBLA. EA would win a lot of points with me if they did that. Ultimas III and IV for the PC/Mac would've made great additions as well.
captain_duck @ Aug 15th 2006 1:10AM
Why is this for the PSP :( . Didnt EA just say they were gonna favor the DS more. Finnaly some compilation that i might be interested in buying (desert/jungle strike / wing commander), and then they stick it on the fscking psp.
Bleh, well in a more positive note, the wii virtual console might have these games.
plufim @ Aug 15th 2006 1:16AM
Wait, old SNES and megadrive games on a PSP? That's unheard of! :P
J Arcane @ Aug 15th 2006 1:22AM
As opposed to the GBA, whose entire library consists of SNES ports?
Bloo @ Aug 15th 2006 1:46AM
"As opposed to the GBA, whose entire library consists of SNES ports?"
Funny, I didn't know Mario Kart Super Circuit, Advance Wars (1&2), Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, Metroid Fusion, Golden Sun, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Zelda Minish Cap, WarioWare, ChuChu Rocket, Botkai, Pokemon, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong were on the SNES!!!

I have to say this list more than compensates for the wealth of lackluster titles EA has been birthing for the past several years. I remember when my parents took me to Toys R' Us for my birthday and told me I could pick out 2 genesis games. I think the first game i picked was Populus, solely based on the fact that the cover was cool (EA always had great boxes). The second choice was difficult. I had to choose between columns (a really cool tetris knock off) and budokan. I remember my older brother wanted me to get budokan so badly, but for some reason, my immature gamer intuition looked at columns and quickly asked my parents to get me that game. I regret that decision to this day, columns got boring way to quick and I would have much rather play a realistic martial arts game.
Anyways, EA was so good to the genesis. I remember going to blockbuster as a kid and picking out desert strike and loving it to death. Then came jungle strike which allowed you to get into a gun toting speed boat. Finally there was Urban Strike (I can't believe I still remember this) and I believe you could fly a jet black Stealth Bomber. Talk about innovation. When Road Rash came out, it was amazing. Being able to kick people off bikes was the most addicting thing ever and the fact that hurting certain people caused them to be mad at you made the game different each time you played. I'm not sure if the original road rash 1 allowed you to steal weapons, but that part of the game was my favorite. Stealing a biker's baseball bat was even better than watching the scrambled playboy channel in my parent's guest room.
Then there was this one game EA made where you could decapitate people. It had to be the most violent game of its time and I'm suprised more people don't talk about it. It was before rating systems had developed and I remember looking at the back of the box and seeing casual images of swords cutting limbs and blood spattered about. That game was great, but I had to play it in secret, else my parents would have pulled the plug on my old 16 bit wonder. Overall, I think EA had a powerhouse development team during the 16 bit days. They rarely made sequels, created countless unique franchises, and always set the bar for quality gaming. It is funny to see the state that EA is in now. While they do have some great hits on their hands that never get old such as the Burnout series, games like Madden and Fifa are just so worthless to me. Combined with their frequent whoring of movie and television franchises, EA has become a cash machine that focuses on the best way to make a buck. I hope EA either changes their ways and creates unique and entertaining franchises or polishes off a sequel to a 16 bit era game. Either way, they need to get their act together, their starting to become the McDonald's of game developers and I don't mean that in a deliciously guilty cheeseburger sort of way.
Hamuel @ Aug 15th 2006 2:14AM
Does anyone else remeber the old Mutant League Cartoon series, gosh that show was garbage. Any what, Yeah, Mutant League Football was a classic game. I remeber trading in my Atari Jaguar for that and Chrono Trigger.
Jay @ Aug 15th 2006 4:23AM
Is this some desperate attempt to lure people from the homebrew scene? I don't go for illegal applications (non-ripped roms included) but even I know you can download all this for free already, file by file.
This won't stop homebrew Sony. unless they release their own PSP ISO loader. It's obvious what they have to do to get some sales but they wont.
niels @ Aug 15th 2006 4:36AM
Jay, buddy, you are confused. Homebrew means that people use their own, home-made, software on the psp. You seem to equate homebrew with running illegally obtained, professionally-made, software. Do you realize that sony would have zero problems with homebrew if it wasnt for people like you who missuse "homebrew" to to run professionally-made software? Im sorry but you have no argument.
saboola @ Aug 15th 2006 8:03AM
My first EA game on the Genesis was King's Bounty, which I think eventually became Hero's of Might & Magic. My first EA game ever was Racing Destruction Set on the Commodore 64. Good times.
MrTroy @ Aug 15th 2006 10:04AM
Am I the only person who has a problem with them rereleasing Mutant Leauge? I mean if they're gonna do it, they should update the roster. Most of those guys have been dead for years.
(Either way I'm still getting it. :) )
logikil @ Aug 15th 2006 10:15AM
MLF here is worth the price of admission. I remember that game vividly on the Genesis. And the Strike series would be great as well. Barring anything that really stands out for me (ie i break down and by expensive ass tekken) this may be the first PSP game i've picked up in a while.
Mal F4cti0n @ Aug 15th 2006 10:22AM
Budokan,
Wow, that was like the best martial arts fighting game ever!
NitrogenB @ Aug 15th 2006 10:28AM

XBOX LIVE ARCADE
machewchew @ Aug 15th 2006 1:29PM
How was the Syndicate console port, anyway?
I've wanted Syndicate on the DS since forever, but I want something ported specifically to the DS with touch screen capabilities. Gosh I want it so bad.
LinkerX @ Aug 16th 2006 2:45PM
:( man I was just thinking xbox live arcade could use Mutant League Football, because I love that game.
AnthonyS @ Nov 13th 2006 11:04AM
Any one hear remember another classic EA game, "The Immortal"? (It was a PC-port, I think...)
